Shield Maidens was founded in 2024 by Sumaiyya Jumma and Maria Muneeni as a way of giving back to the community. As beneficiaries of UN Women, the African Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI), and Siemens EmpowerHER, they recognized the need to create a platform dedicated to advocacy, empowerment, and education.
At Shield Maidens, our mission is to educate young women and youth on digital safety while actively fighting against technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). We are committed to fostering an inclusive world by advocating for gender equality, justice, and the protection of online spaces.
Our goal is to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the digital world safely, to amplify voices against gender-based violence, and to drive meaningful change through advocacy and education. Together, we stand for a safer, more inclusive future for all.
We equip individuals, especially women, girls, and marginalized groups, with the knowledge and skills they need to protect themselves in the digital world. Through online safety trainings, toolkits, and community workshops, we teach how to identify online threats such as phishing, cyberbullying, and doxxing. We also advocate for responsible digital citizenship and the ethical use of technology in everyday life.
Technology Facilitated Gender Based Violence (TFGBV) is a growing concern in the digital age. We actively address this issue by creating safe spaces for survivors, offering emotional support, and connecting them to professional resources and services. Through storytelling, survivor-led advocacy, and awareness campaigns, we educate the public and policymakers about the impact of TFGBV and push for systemic change.
We believe technology can be a force for good. That is why we support youth and women in developing digital solutions that promote safety, inclusivity, and justice. Digital reporting tools and educational platforms, our team harnesses innovation to solve real-world issues. We also teach coding, cybersecurity, and digital literacy to bridge the digital divide and empower future tech leaders.
At Shield Maidens, we empower young women, girls, and marginalized communities to thrive in digital spaces. United by core values, we combat TFGBV and stand for a just, inclusive, and safe tech world.
